Overview

Har Ki Dun is a cradle-shaped hanging valley in Uttarakhand, India. This place has a mythological aspect of its own , and the name suggests HAR which refers to LORD SHIVA (Har har mahadev) , and DUN which literally means a valley , makes it the god’s valley.. Covered with snow peaks all around , this entity of nature is at a height of 11,675 ft (3566 m) from the mean sea level.

Har ki Dun recites in the heart of Govind Ballabh Pant National Park , a place known for its beautiful valleys and wonderful vegetation . Har ki dun is also surrounded by dense forests . The forests are rich in wildlife and a small heaven for bird watchers and nature lovers.

Talking about the vegetation , the valley is surrounded with alpine vegetation, Alpine plants are plants that grow in an alpine climate, which occurs at high elevation and above the tree line.

According to the local folks , in the religious scriptures it is mentioned that the Pandavs went to heaven through this valley and the nearby mountain peaks. Duryodhan is worshiped here by few communities , so you will find old and massive Duryodhan temples all around the valley.

In conclusion, it feels like due to the isolation of this admirable destination of the gharwals , the natural beauty of this little universe is still maintained .

Har ki dun trek - April

This was our first trek via tour operator/guide and it was really a great experience; be it the stay at the matridevi Homestay (which is operated by Ms Reena Rawat), or the entire trek (Chaman Rawat). I would definitely recommend it. My only suggestion would be to get things cleared while booking so that you have right expectations set.
